Medical Monday, Thriving Thursday highlights community collaboration among local organizations
March 27, 2024 -- When community
organizations form partnerships it can lead to opportunities to combine
resources and benefit those they serve.
April's Medical
Monday and Thriving Thursday will feature representatives from local
organizations to share on the topic "Community Collaboration."
This month's Medical
Monday will move to the Richmond Senior Recreation Center, 1600 S. 2nd
St. in Richmond. The event is at 1 p.m. on April 15.
During Medical
Monday, speakers Tai Muldoon, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Wayne County,
and Becky Thompson, Recreation Coordinator for the Richmond Parks and
Recreation Department, will share how their programs work together.
Senior center
participants interact with members of Girls Inc. as they teach them to knit and
crochet. Studies show intergenerational engagement benefits both groups by
sharing knowledge and improves communication as well as providing seniors with advantages
to physical and mental health.
In
Connersville, Thriving Thursday will be held at 11:30 a.m. on April 11 at the
Fayette County Senior Center, 477 N. Grand Ave. The event will feature three
presenters from collaborating organizations.
Presenters will
be Patty Robinson, Coordinator for the Fayette County Food Council; Heather
Brower, Community Outreach Coordinator for NATCO Community Empowerment Center;
and Sarah Rathburn from The Haven.
The Haven is a
youth and young adult ministry in Connersville. Rathburn will discuss how The
Haven works with the Fayette County Food Council and other community
organizations to provide a daily meal for residents.
The Fayette
County Food Council and NATCO Community Empowerment Center are co-occupants of
the Fayette County Services Hub in Connersville. Robinson and Brower will talk
about the variety of resources available.
The Fayette
County Food Council brings pantries, partners, and resources together for the
broader community. NATCO Community Empowerment Center helps people to live
better lives through personalized assistance programs, resources, and services.

Medical Monday and Thriving Thursday are supported by Reid Health Community Benefit. Harlin started Medical Monday when she worked for the Minority Health Coalition and maintained it after joining Reid Health. The events have loyal followings, averaging 40 to 50 guests each month to learn about various health issues, community programs, and health screenings.
