July Ambassador 'takes what might feel like a small task and turns it into an act of kindness'

Ahead of an open house last month, the team at Reid Health Comprehensive Bone & Joint Center had a long to-do list for Building Service Technician Chris Harris.

“He did a fantastic job helping to make sure our office was ready, touching up and painting our walls, hanging posters and pictures, and getting offices ready for our new providers who’ll be arriving soon,” a co-worker said.

“Chris is always so nice, positive, and helpful with any of our needs. Whenever he’s here, if we mention something additional that needs to be addressed, he always says, ‘I’ll take care of that for you’ or ‘I’ll take a look at it while I’m here.’ He is a great asset to have on the Reid team!”

Harris, who has been part of Reid’s Engineering-Maintenance team for almost four years, says he learned that work ethic from his parents.

“My father retired from the same employer after 42 years, and my mother raised seven children,” Reid’s Ambassador for the month of July said.

“I enjoy the genuine gratitude I receive from helping people. Learning new aspects of my job and making staff members happy with what I do for them is what motivates me each day.”

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Harris now lives in Richmond with his wife, Amanda. He has three grown children – Olivia, Collin, and Alaina.

When he’s not working, he enjoys being outdoors, hunting, fishing at bass tournaments, or traveling to Florida to spend time on the beach with his family.

“Chris is an amazing asset to Reid. When he’s here and we can catch him with yet another need, he’s always so very willing to be helpful,” a co-worker said. “We appreciate his kind spirit and willingness to take initiative to go above and beyond. He takes what might feel like a small task and turns it into an act of kindness.”

“He always has a kind word to share and a smile on his face,” another colleague said. “No matter the challenge, he’s able to fix just about anything and everything. His positive attitude, dedication, and willingness to help make him truly appreciated by everyone around him.”

Harris feels that positivity returned to him.

“Reid is a very friendly environment,” he said. “There’s always a nice greeting from every staff member I pass by throughout my day. I couldn’t be happier working here with a great supportive team.”
