Reid Health recently celebrated a pair of major gifts to the Reid Health Foundation from three local residents who have a considerable history of service and generosity to the community.

Reid staff, Governing Board members, and guests gathered on the health system’s main campus to watch as the designations were announced, starting with the Henry Oncology Conference Room followed by the Paul & Pat Lingle Family Dining Room.

Robin Henry has served on the Governing Board since 2019 and also has served a total of 11 years as a Foundation Board member. Henry has championed many Reid causes throughout the years through her volunteerism and generosity, including BRAvo!, Kaleidoscope, and ReidRide.

“Robin has said many times that giving isn’t about the amount, it’s about the act. It’s about neighbors caring for neighbors,” said Jason Troutwine, Reid Health Vice President/Reid Foundation President.

“Her voice has been instrumental in shaping how Reid Health cares for the community beyond hospital walls, with a focus on prevention, wellness, and access for everyone.”

Paul Lingle has served on the Governing Board for more than four decades and served on the Foundation Board from 1996-2004. He and his wife, Pat, have a long history of providing philanthropic support to community nonprofits that enhance the health and well-being of the community, provide educational opportunities, or advance the arts.

“Paul and Pat’s generosity has touched every corner of this community. They believe in a thriving community that is built on three essential pillars – education, the arts, and healthcare. Their investments in each area can be seen and felt throughout Wayne County,” Troutwine said.

“These gifts are not simply names on walls. They are investments in people and learning and in the vibrancy of this community.”

As civic leaders, Henry and the Lingles are rooted in Richmond and have sought to give back to the city and Wayne County through the years.

“Each one of us can make a difference in our own way,” Henry said. “Our community is truly blessed to have Reid there for us, and I can’t imagine not having Reid. It’s an integral part of the emotional and physical well-being of our community as well as a leader in our community initiatives.”

The gifts will go toward the creation of two endowed funds. Henry’s has been designated for the Reid Health Foundation to use wherever the need is the greatest while the Lingles are starting the Paul & Pat Lingle Experiential Learning Scholarship Fund.

Distributions from the Lingles’ gift will be used to help college students seeking internship, apprenticeship, and other experiential learning opportunities in healthcare by providing an hourly wage to those who participate in such roles at Reid.

“I am always interested in keeping Richmond and Wayne County’s best and brightest here,” Paul Lingle said. “If we can get them connected – get them in healthcare early – we have a good chance of keeping them here and keeping them at Reid.”

The new named spaces not only honor the specific contributions of Henry and the Lingles, but they serve as reminders of the impact any local resident can have on the communities they call home.

“These dedications honor individuals whose lives are marked by service, leadership, and generosity. They remind us that philanthropy is more than a financial act. It is a conscious decision to share one’s own resources to help others and invest in our collective future,” Troutwine said.
