Girls Inc. of Wayne County: ‘Painting Her a Bright Future’ exhibition in MacDowell Gallery
Nov. 7, 2024 -- "Painting Her a Bright Future" is on display now through January 2025 in the MacDowell Gallery, located on the second floor of the Reid Health Outpatient Care Center, 1100 Reid Parkway.
Artists are
members of Girls Inc. of Wayne County and in grades K-10. The exhibition includes
the artwork of 30 girls showing what they believe a bright future could like
for them through portraits and abstracts.
Girls Inc.
inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Programs empower girls to
navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to achieve their dreams.
Art is an
important part of the Girls Inc. STEM programming.
Tai Muldoon, Chief
Executive Officer of Girls Inc. of Wayne County, said it's exciting to feature
artwork created by their members in a special display at Reid Health.
"This exhibit
highlights their creativity and self-expression, inspired by the
confidence-building programs they participate in at Girls Inc. We are grateful
to Reid for offering this opportunity to highlight the talent and imagination
of our young artists to the community," Muldoon said.
The art exhibit
is connected to the Girls Inc. signature event on Nov. 15 to celebrate four
award honorees' remarkable achievements, leadership, and dedication to creating
a better, stronger future for girls in the community.
This year
awards are being presented to Ami Miller, Sergeant for the Richmond Police
Department, Strong honoree; Anna Osborn-Brown, Senior Director of Inpatient
Nursing, Emergency and Urgent Care at Reid Health, Smart honoree; Angela
Coffey, Program Director at Crystal Dreams Foundation and Owner of Legacy Sea
Moss, Bold honoree; and Jess Przybysz, Director of Community Health &
Benefit at Reid Health, Inspiring honoree. Alejandra Salazar is the Girl of the
Year honoree.
The MacDowell
Gallery is named after Barry MacDowell, who served as Reid President and CEO
from 1988 to 2008. To visit the exhibit, use the Grand Staircase or the outpatient
elevators from the main entrance to the second-floor gallery.
