Reid Health urogynecologist earns Boston Scientific Center of Excellence designation for specialized women's care

Janelle Evans, MD, urogynecologist at Reid Health, has received designation as an Axonics™ SNM and Bulkamid™ Urethral Bulking System Center of Excellence by Boston Scientific, recognizing her expertise in advanced urinary incontinence treatments and her commitment to patient education.

The designation is awarded to physicians who meet rigorous program requirements, including extensive experience with implanting the Axonics Sacral Neuromodulation (SNM) System and a demonstrated commitment to helping patients better understand urinary incontinence and the treatment options available to improve their quality of life.

“Many women live with urinary incontinence longer than they should because they believe it's simply a part of aging or something they have to accept,” Dr. Evans said.

“Urinary incontinence is common, but it isn't something women have to live with. Every person’s experience is different, and there are effective treatments available that can help them to regain confidence and make a meaningful difference.”

One of the most common forms of urinary incontinence is stress urinary incontinence (SUI), which affects about 1 in 3 women at some point in their lives. SUI occurs when weakened pelvic floor muscles allow urine to leak during activities such as coughing, laughing, sneezing, exercising, or lifting. A variety of treatment options are available, including minimally invasive therapies that can help many women regain bladder control and return to activities they enjoy.

As a urogynecologist, Dr. Evans specializes in diagnosing and treating bladder control concerns, menopause-related changes, and pelvic floor disorders. She offers both conservative and advanced treatment options tailored to each person's needs.

The designation recognizes Dr. Evans’ expertise in advanced, minimally invasive treatment options for urinary incontinence. The recognition helps identify providers with advanced training and experience in treating urinary incontinence, giving patients in the region access to specialized care close to home.

The recognition also reflects the collaborative efforts of Dr. Evans, the Reid Outpatient Surgery & Endoscopy (ROSE) team, and surgical staff. From investing in specialized equipment and technology to providing seamless care through the planning, preoperative, operating room, and recovery phases, the team's coordinated approach helps deliver advanced treatment options and contributes to positive outcomes.

Axonics SNM is a clinically proven therapy that treats overactive bladder, urinary urge incontinence, urinary retention, and fecal incontinence by restoring communication between the bladder and the nerves that control bladder and bowel function.

Bulkamid is a minimally invasive treatment for stress urinary incontinence. During the procedure, a soft, water-based gel is injected into the urethral wall to help it close more effectively, reducing bladder leaks and providing long-lasting symptom relief for many patients.

In addition to her urogynecology training, Dr. Evans is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP). The credential recognizes clinicians who have demonstrated expertise in menopause care through a competency examination developed by The Menopause Society. As an MSCP, she provides evidence-based care to help women understand symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause, explore treatment options, and make informed decisions that align with their health goals and lifestyle.

Dr. Evans joined Reid Health in May 2024. She earned her medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed her residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts, followed by a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
