Occupational medicine: Supporting a healthy workforce

Occupational medicine focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses. It’s designed to help employees maintain their health, safety, and well-being on the job. Our occupational medicine providers work closely with both employers and employees to ensure workers are fit for their roles and any job-related health concerns are managed effectively.

Occupational medicine at Reid Health

We understand the importance of maintaining the health and safety of the workforce. Our team of healthcare providers supports employees through injury treatment, preventive care, and regulatory compliance.

We offer a range of services including in-clinic care and injury treatment. Our in-clinic services provide essential health assessments, such as drug and alcohol testing, vision testing, immunizations, and CDL physicals, as well as specialized testing like lift and follicular tests. For injury treatment, we provide expert care for burns, lacerations, some fractures, sprains, strains, concussions, and more.

Reid Occupational Medicine performs evaluations and treatments that align with the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) guidelines.

Treatment of workplace injuries

Employee injuries are treated by a Reid Occupational Medicine care provider with extensive emergency medicine experience, with oversight by a current emergency medicine doctor.

The provider coordinates care by obtaining authorization needed for treatment; ordering diagnostic imaging like X-rays, CTs, and ultrasounds; and making referrals to specialists as needed. Post-injury drug and alcohol testing and follow-up visits (if applicable) are also scheduled by the provider.

Comprehensive evaluation and treatment of work injuries, exposures, and illnesses include, but are not limited to:

  • Burns, lacerations, eye injuries, foreign bodies
  • Fractures (which might also be managed by our Emergency Department depending on severity)
  • Exposures to chemicals, blood, body fluids, Tuberculosis (TB), or environmental toxins
  • Musculoskeletal injuries like sprains, strains, or contusions
