We believe quality care should be accessible to all patients. Our interpreter services ensure language barriers or communication challenges don’t prevent you from receiving safe, accurate, and compassionate care.
Whether you’re deaf, hard of hearing, or speak a language other than English, our certified interpreter services help you communicate effectively with your healthcare team at every step of your visit.
Language and communication services
We provide free interpreter services and communication aids to support patients:
- Qualified interpreters for patients who speak a language other than English
- Sign language interpreters for patients who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Translated materials for patients whose primary language is not English can be requested but may not be available at time of service.
These services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, ensuring you can always communicate effectively during your care.
How services are provided
We offer professional interpreter services using secure telephonic or live video platforms. Our care team members will access interpreters via dedicated devices with built-in cameras and microphones to ensure privacy and accuracy.
- For patients in the hospital: services are available through staff to connect patients to interpreter services. Additionally, Reid Health Smartboards can assist in communicating with patients.
- For outpatient visits: a Reid team member will initiate a call with an interpreter service to help facilitate appointment setting and care needs. If interpreter services are needed during a visit, the Reid team members will arrange for this on the patient’s behalf.
