Get the most out of your doctor visit
At Reid Health patients are encouraged to be active participants in their health care. Here are a few ways that you can get the best out of your doctor visit.
First of all be on time! And be sure to bring:
A list of specific questions. Prioritize these questions as it might not be possible to cover all of your concerns in one visit. A list of all medications you take - including over- the-counter medicines. Better yet bring all of your medications in their original containers.
- A list of all immunizations
- A list of all specialists you see
- Copies of previous medical records
- A log of recent blood pressure readings blood glucose readings or weight measurements (if relevant)
- A friend family member or caregiver who can also help you remember instructions following the appointment
Be prepared to share:
- Information about family work and social history including habits such as tobacco and alcohol use
- Details of any symptoms as these will help provide information for possible causes of your concerns
- Ask questions & voice concerns - We are here to help you understand your plan of care before you leave the office.
What to expect during the doctor visit:
- A physical exam including listening to the heart and lungs
- Establishment of treatment goals
- Suggestions for lifestyle changes tests
- Prescriptions
Before you leave:
- Check for understanding
- Make sure you have a clear treatment plan
- Schedule a follow-up appointment
