Move your body - relieve stress
We all
know that exercise does the body good, but did you know that virtually any form
of exercise, from aerobics to yoga, can act as a stress reliever?
Here are
4 ideas to get your body moving and lower that stress level:
- Walk more. Stress less. Did you know walking can decrease stress by increasing endorphins, your brain's "feel good" neurotransmitters? Take a short walk. We promise it will improve your mood!
- Don't underestimate the value of a good stretch! Our daily routines can cause muscles to become overworked, decrease flexibility and change our range of motion. Stretching helps improve these problem areas. Try these stretches - they can be completed anywhere!
- Reach for the sky: Stand up (if standing is not possible, sit straight up), raise your arms slowly above your head with palms facing up as if you are pushing up. Count to 5 and return to your normal position. Repeat this stretch 3 times.
- Wrist stretch: Extend your right arm, palm up. Gently pull your fingers down and back with your left hand. Switch hands and repeat.
- Torso stretch: Clasp your hands behind your back. Push your chest outward and raise your chin. Hold this for 10 to 30 seconds.
- Starting an exercise routine can be challenging. Need a workout plan or exercise suggestions? We got you covered! Send an email to wellness@reidhealth.org and we will connect you with a personal trainer to develop a personalized plan, or give you some great suggestions on how to get started.
- Why stay stuck indoors? Take advantage of the warm weather and walk outside. Walking as little as 10 -15 minutes three times a day will provide a major boost to your health.
