A fish story: Knee problems rock the boat
Larry Parker
When Larry Parker experienced intense knee pain his orthopedic surgeon was with him every step of the way. Even after Larry insisted on delaying surgery until bass fishing season was over.
The pain which began in late 2011 was intense at times even at night. Larry a Richmond resident made an appointment with Dr. Mario Lee an orthopedic surgeon at Reid Orthopedics. Dr. Lee ran some tests and determined that arthritis was the culprit. Cortisone shots eased the pain but by June 2012 it was obvious that Larry needed more help. Dr. Lee recommended a partial knee replacement saying that surgery could be scheduled within a few weeks.
“I told Dr. Lee that just wasn’t going to work” says Larry somewhat sheepishly. “It was fishing season and I fish all summer long. I asked him if waiting a few months would hurt the knee. He grinned and said ‘it won’t hurt the knee but the knee will hurt you.’ He also said we’d do the best we could with shots and pain relief medication and then schedule the surgery for later in the year.”
The surgery took place in November 2012. “Afterward there was no pain whatsoever in my knee” says Larry. “I couldn’t believe it and neither could my physical therapists at Reid!”
Larry found that the care he received at Reid Health during and after surgery was top notch explaining that everyone was “very professional and very knowledgeable.”
“Dr. Lee was great” Larry adds. “He always took time to explain what was going on with my knee and what could be done. I highly recommend Dr. Lee and Reid Orthopedics if you are having joint pain There’s no sense putting it off — unless you need to fish.”
