Baking, icing 3,000-plus cupcakes a labor of love for June Ambassador
Becki Foreman, Food & Nutrition Services
June 3, 2024 -- As part of Reid Health's celebration of National Hospital Week last month, there was a sweet treat waiting for employees: More than 3,000 cupcakes of various flavors.
The colorful confections came courtesy of Becki Foreman, a cook on Reid's Food & Nutrition Services team, who volunteered to take on the task.
"I
like a challenge," Foreman said. "I love the idea that I have this experience
under my belt, to be able to say, 'I did that' and 'I accomplished that!' I was
very honored to do it for everyone. I do love to share my baking!"
Foreman joined
Reid in 2016 and has worked in Food & Nutrition Services for all but one
year since.
"Cooking
and baking are where I can express myself," she said. "Sometimes, it's not like
working at all because it's very therapeutic. I love to create different items
and share them with everyone. I love the feedback I get, and I feel
appreciated."
Foreman's
co-workers say her talent for baking brings joy to their day.
"While working third shift in the Emergency Department,
even on the most stressful nights, I could count on Becki's cookies and
cupcakes to make the day better," one person said. "Not to mention, she's
always got a smile and something to say to make you laugh!"
"Her baking skills are top notch," another co-worker
said. "She can turn someone's day around with a fresh-baked chocolate chip
cookie, brownie, or cake pops. I couldn't think of a more deserving person than
Becki for this month's Ambassador!"
Originally
from Connersville, Foreman still lives there today with her husband, Tony
Nicholson. They have three sons and four grandchildren. When she's not working,
Foreman enjoys hanging out with family, gardening, working out, and going to
concerts.
"What
motivates me the most is being a role model for my children and grandchildren,"
she said. "Whatever we have going on, we must keep moving forward and handle
our business."
Working at Reid
has allowed Foreman to get a small taste of what it would be like to realize
her dream career.
"I've
always wanted to have my own bakery, and so far, this is my way of having one.
I get to experience what that can feel like," she said.
"Becki's
talent is already known to many, and she has a reputation for taking great care
to make sure others know when special treats are available, including making
personal phone calls or sending emails," a co-worker said. "She genuinely cares
about bringing joy to others through her love of baking and cooking!"
