December’s DAISY Award honoree recognized for exceptional care of infant
Dec. 23, 2024 -- This month's DAISY Award demonstrates a family's deep appreciation for the extraordinary care a nurse provided for their infant.
December's DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®
recipient at Reid Health was presented to Logan Moody, a Charge Nurse for the Emergency
Department.
Reid's new program is part of the DAISY Foundation's
mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide
patients and families every day. Patients, families, colleagues, and community
members can submit
nominations for nurses to receive the recognition. A committee of
colleagues selects the recipient during a blind review process.
Moody was nominated by a Reid Health employee.
"Logan was the calm to our storm not once, but twice as
we had to come to the ED with our 8-month-old daughter," the Reid team member
wrote in the nomination.
"He was so incredibly caring, kind, and understanding.
You could tell the second time we arrived at his ED he was just as concerned
about our daughter as we were. His nursing skills, communication, and
willingness to go way above and beyond deserve recognition. Reid is very
fortunate to have a nurse like Logan."
Awards are presented monthly at surprise celebrations
attended by the nominator, honoree's colleagues, family members, guests, and
Reid's administration team. Each honoree receives a certificate commending their
work as an extraordinary nurse and the meaningful difference they can make in
the lives of others.
Moody said was shocked to receive the
recognition but honored to have his supervisors and colleagues in attendance,
many of whom have helped him become the nurse he is today.
"It brings me joy to know I was able to make an impact
for the family when they were going through a very difficult and stressful time,"
Moody said.
He's reminded of what it is to be an exceptional nurse by
his father, Donald Moody, who the family lost to cancer in March 2024. "It's
the opportunity to help people," he said.
"He spent a little over a month here at Reid on pretty
much every floor at some point," Moody said. "After he had passed, when I talked
to different nurses, most of them would say their conversations together were
about how proud he was of me and that he thought I was such a great nurse.
"He has become my motivation to provide exceptional care
for each and every patient I interact with and get to care for. It's been a
pleasure to work alongside a great team that has supported me throughout my
career and journey as a nurse and individual. I have the honor and pleasure of
working with a wonderful team of nurses that haven't only become good friends,
but family."
Moody is a native of Ansonia, Ohio. He joined Reid in June
2016 as a Student Nurse Tech in the float pool. In May 2017, Moody earned his nursing
degree from Indiana University East. He was then employed full-time in Reid's Intensive
Care Unit (ICU) and also worked in the Cardiovascular ICU to care for patients
recovering from heart surgery. Two years later, he transferred to the ED.
About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the
extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families
every day. The DAISY Award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by
members of his family after he passed away from complications of idiopathic
thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune
disease. The care Patrick and his family received while he was ill inspired
this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the
lives of their patients and patient families. More information is available at http://DAISYfoundation.org.
