Healthgrades names Reid Health one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals
Reid also ranked among top 3 in Indiana for trio of specialties
Jan. 23, 2024 -- Reid Health is one of America's 250 Best Hospitals for 2024, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor.
The achievement puts Reid in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance.
"This remarkable achievement is a reflection of the high-quality care our patients can expect to receive when they come to Reid," said Craig Kinyon, Reid Health President/CEO. "Our team members' compassion and dedication make this possible. They're driven to serve all those who entrust us with their care."
To determine the top hospitals for 2024, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 conditions and procedures at about 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Unlike other studies, Healthgrades ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes.
The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed significant variation in hospital performance, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020-2022, if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to America's 250 Best Hospitals, on average, 178,402 lives could potentially have been saved.
In addition to the nationwide honor, Reid was named one of the top 3 health systems in Indiana for a trio of specialty care services. Healthgrades ranked Reid No. 2 in the state for critical care and pulmonary care and No. 3 in Indiana for orthopedic surgery.
From 2020 to 2022, patients treated at hospitals that received a state ranking for critical care had, on average, a 28.2% lower risk of dying than if they were treated at hospitals that were not state ranked. Those seeking pulmonary care at a state-ranked facility had a 51.1% lower risk of dying while patients receiving care at a state-ranked hospital for orthopedic surgery had a 44.4% lower risk of complications after their procedure.

The awards are just the latest recognitions Reid has received from Healthgrades. Last year alone, the health system earned:
- Excellence Awards for stroke care and spine surgery
- 5-star ratings for stroke, spinal fusion, and hip fracture care
- An America's 100 Best Hospitals award for spine surgery
"Each of these honors reflects our commitment to providing the best care possible and distinguishes Reid as one of Indiana's leading providers of specialty care," said Vinay Bhooma, MD, Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for Reid Health.
"Healthgrades commends Reid for its leadership and continued dedication to high-quality care," said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. "As one of America's 250 Best Hospitals, Reid is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide and ensuring superior outcomes for the patients in their community. Consumers should feel confident knowing they have access to top-ranked care at Reid."
Statistics are based on Healthgrades' analysis of MedPAR data for years 2020 through 2022 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only. For more information, see the complete methodologies for the 2024 American's Best Hospitals Awards and the 2024 Specialty State Rankings.
