July 2, 2024 -- When Nicholas
Hinkle, DO, has finished his time at Reid Health's Family Medicine Residency
Program, he won't have far to travel to continue his career.
One of seven
physicians who are nearing the completion of their residency, Dr. Hinkle will
move to Reid's State Line Family Medicine practice in Richmond later this month.
"How
great is it that Dr. Hinkle gets to join some of his teachers now in practice?"
said Phillip Scott, DO, FAAFP, Residency Program Director. "Reid and those
we serve benefit every time Reid successfully recruits a terrific physician to
the community.
"When
we recruit a graduate from our program, it's keeping someone here who we've had
three years to observe under both good and difficult conditions and someone who
has had the opportunity to see what it's like to be a physician with Reid."
Members of the residency program's Class of 2024 were recently celebrated at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond. Others graduating in the class include:
- Kristopher Brott, DO, who will practice outpatient medicine in Indiana;
- Shruti Dave, MD, who will be a hospitalist in Florida;
- Tanner Everhart, DO, who will practice outpatient medicine at a practice in his hometown of Lafayette, Indiana;
- Joseph Intriago, MD, who will practice outpatient medicine in Missouri; and
- Sara Khan, MD, who will be a hospitalist in New York.
"This
year's class is a wonderfully diverse group, coming from U.S., Caribbean, and
other international medical schools," Dr. Scott said. "They've
developed impressive skills and will make a significant impact on the
communities they'll serve after graduation."
Reid's residency program is affiliated with the Kansas City
University of Medicine and Bioscience in Kansas City, Missouri. Graduates complete three
years of training in family medicine, gaining a wide-ranging experience in the
Reid Health system.
Six core faculty members -- Dr. Scott;
Novera Inam, MD; Nuzhat Nisa, MD; Donald Smith, MD; Andy Tran, MD; and Tim
Kaehr, PsyD, HSPP, LMFT -- supervise the residents' overall training, along with
75 community physicians who act as preceptors across a variety of medical
specialties.

Seven new physicians will join the
program, bringing the total number of residents to 17.
The residents in Reid's program include:
- Advancing second-year residents Bothaina Afifi, MD; Nicole Hountz, DO; and Jeffery Lee, MD
- Advancing first-year residents Stephanie Delgado, MD; Rajesh Dhakal, MD; Megan Hammersla, MD; Christine Miller, DO; Vivien Nsonwu, MD; Jesse Smallwood, DO; and Salecah Ullah, MD
- Incoming residents Samuel Griffin, MD; Sadia Khan, MD; Victor Odoma, MD; Natalia Rosca, MD; Vivek Roy, MD; Rohit Shrestha, MD; and Amal Sobeih, MD
Two of the newcomers already have ties to
Reid. Dr. Sobeih's husband is Ahmed Amro, MD, an interventional cardiologist at
Richmond Cardiology Associates, and Dr. Shrestha is friends of residency
program graduate Kapesh Kumar, MD, and Ajit Dhakal, MD, who serves at Reid as a
hospitalist.
"Reid
Health and Richmond generally are great places to work and live -- which is no
surprise to those of us who already do so -- but it isn't widely known outside
our area," Dr. Scott said. "So the people who already have ties to our area are
a wonderful recruiting opportunity because they're familiar with our community
and culture."
