Reid Health welcomes new provider to Brookville Primary & Specialty Care
Jan. 11, 2024 -- Reid Health Primary & Specialty Care - Brookville is proud to welcome Lindsey Porta, MD, and her family to Franklin County.
Dr. Porta wanted to move across the country with her husband, three young children, and mother to join Reid Health in Brookville for more than a job; it's an opportunity to do what she loves within a community she is excited to call home.
Dr. Porta chose family medicine intending to live and practice in a small, rural town. Her second priority was to be close to family. Brookville -- with its population of just more than 5,728 and proximity to Cincinnati, where her husband was born and raised -- was exactly what she envisioned. Franklin County has an overall population of more than 23,000 residents.
Raised in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Dr. Porta is familiar with small-town living and loves outdoor adventures. She treasures community, especially for raising her children, but also for establishing long-term relationships with her patients in Brookville.
"I want to develop relationships with my patients over several stages of life to provide them with comprehensive and compassionate care," Dr. Porta said. "Really knowing my patients is what I truly love about practicing medicine. It's meaningful and fun!"
Outside of finding an optimal location to practice medicine and raise her young children, Dr. Porta was determined to begin her career with an organization committed to a mission, vision, and values that could match her tenacity and enthusiasm.
"I was very impressed with Reid Health. The organization is committed to excellence and has all the resources I want for my patients but is physician-led, allowing me the autonomy to practice full-spectrum family medicine in a rural setting," Dr. Porta said.
"The people in this area are fantastic. They are so welcoming and authentic, and exactly who I want to live and work with from a personal and family perspective."
Reid Health Primary & Specialty Care - Brookville is a 20,303-square-foot building located on State Road 101. The state-of-the-art facility opened in March 2023 with more than 20 exam rooms to provide high-quality services and specialty care for residents.
Dr. Porta comes to Brookville with a distinguished academic background including a B.S. in Rehabilitation Studies from the University of North Texas and an MD from the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences.
During medical school, Dr. Porta served in the U.S. Navy and began her graduate medical training at Naval Medical Center San Diego in general surgery. She completed her residency in family medicine through the University of California, Riverside. Throughout her education and training, she was recognized with awards such as Outstanding Student in General Surgery and Resident Teacher of the Year.
While completing her residency, Dr. Porta challenged herself to do more during her training. She simultaneously completed her Master of Education from the University of Cincinnati while raising a toddler, having two more children, being active on several hospital committees, elected chief resident, and being awarded recognition in academic and teaching excellence.
She humbly acknowledges her accomplishments were only possible through her faith and the support of her family -- her husband, her mother who chose to live with them to help, and her in-laws who temporarily moved to California to also help.
Dr. Porta is now seeing patients. She is collaborating with Scott Marstellar, MD, as he transitions full-time to Reid Health Primary & Specialty Care - Connersville and with Nurse Practitioner Katie Marker.
Dr. Porta lives in Brookville with her husband, Justin, and their children, Ben, 5; Abby, 3; and Sophie, 1.
