History of the Pediatric Center
The practice first opened in February 1972 on the corner of
Waterfall Road and Chester Boulevard with four pediatricians who came together to
form the Pediatric Center. We were the only pediatric practice in Wayne and
surrounding counties for many years and remain the only pediatric practice in
Wayne County. Dr. Paul Rider joined the practice as the 5th
pediatrician in 1974, but has since retired and is working at Reid Health in
the medical education department. We have seen four generations of pediatric patients
since we began.
In July 1997, Dr. William Black joined the practice, seeing children
at the Pediatric Center and going down to Dr. Anderson's office in the old Reid
Hospital to see adults. The Pediatric Center and Dr. Anderson's Internal
Medicine practice merged in October 1997 to form the Pediatric and Internal
Medicine Center to care for the entire family. Dr. Ryan joined the practice in
June 1998. Drs. Ryan and Black have been the mainstay of the practice now for
over 20 years. We have several employees that have been here since the practice
opened.
In October 2008, we aligned with Reid Hospital &
Health Care Services as one of the first outpatient practices to join Reid
Health Physician Associates. In November 2015, we moved from the original office
to a nice, new and much larger office on the opposite side of Waterfall Road
and Chester Boulevard. Shortly after our move, Dr. Martin Munoz joined the
practice. In April of 2017, Dr. Andrew
Deitsch, longtime physician in the community, joined us to help Dr. Black with
the adult population. Since then we have also added two family practice nurse
practitioners -- Pamela Rodgers and
Britney Glover. Dr. Shreeram Kumar joined the practice in September of 2019.
