Substance Use Support

Reid Health provides prevention, treatment, and support for substance use with resources for teens, adults, and expecting mothers.

Understanding substance use

Substance use can affect anyone, regardless of age or background. At Reid Health, we’re here to help you or your loved ones find the right path toward healing.

Our team connects individuals and families with prevention programs, treatment options, and recovery resources for alcohol, opioids, other substances, and tobacco.

Whether it’s our Behavioral Health Services; The Nest, a maternal program in partnership with Reid OB/GYN and Meridian Services; or local organizations to promote recovery, strengthen support systems, and encourage lasting wellness, take the first step toward a healthier life today.

Behavioral warning signs

Substance use develops gradually, and recognizing early warning signs can make a difference. Know these signs so you can help connect those who may be suffering to life-saving resources:

  • Withdrawal from friends or family
  • Secretive or deceptive behavior
  • Sudden mood changes, irritability, or aggression
  • Decline in school or work performance
  • Noticeable physical changes such as fatigue, weight loss, marks on the skin (track marks), or appearance

Why prevention of substance use matters

Substance misuse can impact both short-term and long-term health. Some potential effects include:

  • Overdose: Using too much of a drug at once can be life-threatening. Narcan/Naloxone is available to reverse opioid overdoses.
  • Infections: Sharing needles can lead to HIV, hepatitis C, and endocarditis (heart infection).
  • Chronic illnesses: Heart, liver, and lung disease can develop with long-term misuse.
  • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS): Babies exposed to substances in the womb could face low birth weight, feeding or breathing problems, and seizures. Programs like The Nest support expecting mothers in achieving drug-free pregnancies.

Treatment and support services

Reid Health and community partners offer a variety of treatment and support options for anyone affected by substance use. Our goal is to meet you where you are and guide you toward recovery, stability, and lasting wellness by providing:

Behavioral Health Services: Counseling, therapy, and ongoing support for individuals and families navigating substance use challenges

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT): Evidence-based care using medications such as naltrexone or buprenorphine to safely treat opioid use disorder

Specialized programs for expecting mothers: The Nest helps pregnant and postpartum women on their journey to alcohol- and drug-free living, providing support and helping mothers and their children to thrive after recovery
