Gastroenterology testing and diagnosis

Reid Health Gastroenterology provides a range of diagnostic tests to evaluate your digestive health. Whether you’re experiencing stomach pain, changes in bowel habits, or other gastrointestinal symptoms, accurate testing helps your provider identify the cause and develop the right treatment plan.

Early detection and proper diagnosis are key to managing digestive conditions effectively.

Common tests performed at gastroenterology

  • Endoscopy (EGD): Allows our gastroenterologists to view the upper digestive tract, including the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine, helping diagnose conditions like ulcers, inflammation, and structural abnormalities
  • Colonoscopy: A procedure to examine the colon and rectum for issues such as polyps, inflammation, or bleeding. Although often associated with cancer screening, we also order colonoscopies for diagnostic purposes when symptoms indicate a potential digestive condition.
  • Cologuard: A non-invasive stool test that helps detect colorectal cancer. We use Cologuard for patients who need convenient screening at home or as a first step in evaluating digestive health concerns.
  • Capsule endoscopy: This test uses a small, swallowable camera to capture images of the small intestine. It’s useful for detecting unexplained bleeding, Crohn’s disease, and other small bowel disorders.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP): Combines endoscopy and X-rays to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas
  • Liver biopsy: Helps evaluate liver disease, including fatty liver, hepatitis, or abnormal liver function tests
  • GI motility testing: This testing measures how well food moves through the digestive tract. It’s useful for diagnosing conditions such as gastroparesis or chronic constipation.

Why diagnostic testing matters

Accurate testing helps your healthcare team identify the cause of your symptoms and determine the best treatment options. We prioritize non-invasive and minimally invasive tests when possible.

Our goal is to provide a clear understanding of your digestive health so you can take informed steps toward relief and long-term wellness.
