Hospice and palliative care at Reid Health

When you or someone you love faces a serious illness, you deserve care that brings comfort, compassion, and understanding. Our care teams focus on quality of life and symptom management, helping patients find relief from pain, thrive despite chronic conditions, and live each day with dignity and peace.

We work alongside patients, families, and providers to create a plan that reflects each person’s wishes, values, and goals. You’re never alone on this journey.

What are the differences between hospice and palliative care?

Palliative care provides relief from the symptoms and stress of serious illness. It can begin at any stage and alongside treatments intended to cure or slow disease.

Hospice care supports patients who are nearing the end of life, focusing on comfort and emotional support rather than curative treatment. The goal is to make each moment meaningful for patients and their loved ones.

Both forms of care emphasize comfort, communication, and connection.

The Reid Health approach

We believe care should honor the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Our dedicated team includes providers, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and therapists who work together to provide:

  • Pain and symptom management
  • Emotional and spiritual counseling
  • 24/7 hospice nursing and medical support
  • Help with advance care planning
  • Coordination with your healthcare team
  • Family and caregiver support
  • Inpatient or respite care when needed

Might be appropriate when a provider determines an illness is life-limiting and treatment goals shift toward comfort. Our team can help guide you through this decision and make the transition as smooth as possible.
