What is rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation is a medical specialty focused on restoring function and improving quality of life for people with physical impairments or disabilities. Unlike treatments focusing solely on a specific body part, rehabilitation takes a whole-person approach to help you achieve the highest level of independence possible.

Our team works with people recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or adapting to long-term disabilities. Whether you're healing from a stroke, managing multiple sclerosis, or recovering from an orthopedic injury, we're here to support your journey. By coordinating care between specialists, therapists, and primary care providers, we ensure every aspect of your physical and emotional well-being is addressed during your rehabilitation.

Conditions we treat

Our rehabilitation team has experience treating a wide range of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles and bones. We provide specialized care for:

  • Neurological conditions: Stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other disorders affecting the nervous system
  • Orthopedic injuries: Fractures, joint replacement, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions
  • Chronic pain: Back pain, neck pain, arthritis and other persistent pain conditions
  • Cardiopulmonary conditions: Heart attack recovery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other conditions affecting the heart and lungs
  • Other conditions: Amputation, burns, cancer rehabilitation, balance disorders, swallowing difficulties and speech impairments

No matter what brings you to our rehabilitation services, our goal remains the same: helping you regain function and return to your daily life.

Comprehensive rehabilitation services close to home

We offer a comprehensive range of rehabilitation services, allowing you to access the care you need without traveling far from home. Our services include:

Services

If you or a loved one needs intensive therapy after a serious illness or injury, inpatient rehabilitation at our Acute Rehabilitation Unit provides at least three hours of therapy daily in a supportive hospital setting.

Occupational therapists focus on helping you perform daily activities, such as dressing, bathing, cooking, and working. They teach simple adjustments and recommend tools to make everyday tasks easier.

Our physical therapists help improve your movement, strength, balance, and endurance. They create personalized treatment plans to reduce pain and restore mobility after injury or surgery.

Our speech-language pathologists treat a range of communication disorders, swallowing difficulties, and cognitive challenges. We have two dedicated speech treatment rooms equipped with specialized tools to support your recovery.

How long does physical rehabilitation take?

The length of rehabilitation varies based on your condition, goals, and progress. Some people need just a few weeks of therapy, while others benefit from several months of treatment. Your rehabilitation provider and therapy team will regularly assess your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

During your initial evaluation, we'll discuss realistic timelines and set measurable goals together. We're here to support you throughout your entire recovery journey, whether it's short-term or long-term.

Getting started: Referrals and insurance coverage

Referral process

Most rehabilitation services require a referral from your provider. If you think you might benefit from rehabilitation services, talk with your primary care provider or specialist about getting a referral to our rehabilitation program.

Insurance coverage

We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Coverage for rehabilitation services varies by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance company to understand your benefits. Our team can help you navigate insurance questions and verify your coverage before you begin treatment.

If you have questions about whether rehabilitation services are right for you, our team is happy to discuss your specific needs and concerns.
