Blue Brigade junior volunteers at Reid Health
The Reid Health Junior Volunteer program is an exciting way for young people to serve their community, gain valuable experience, and learn the importance of volunteer service. Junior volunteers, part of the Blue Brigade, assist hospital staff, interact with patients, and contribute to the overall quality of care. This program also helps students build skills for future careers, college applications, and personal growth.
Who can be a Blue Brigade junior volunteer?
Junior volunteers must be at least 16 years old at orientation and may serve until age 18 or high school graduation. Each volunteer works one shift, two hours per week, with assignments based on hospital needs. Volunteers participate in structured sessions designed to provide meaningful experiences while supporting the hospital community.
Junior volunteer program structure
The Reid Health Junior Volunteer program has three phases:
- Guest Relations: welcoming patients and visitors
- Patient Interaction: assisting patients and families under supervision
- Student Leadership: gaining experience in leadership and hospital operations
Sessions are offered during the summer (June –mid August, 2–4 hours/week) and fall (September –mid December, 2 hours/week).
