Program requirements

To maintain safety and effectiveness: 

• Dogs must be certified therapy animals
• Volunteers complete Reid Health’s Blue Brigade application process
• Commitment to regular visits and hospital safety protocols
• Dedication to improving patient well-being

Therapy dogs in the Blue Brigade are specially trained and certified to visit guests and patients in hospital and outpatient settings. Each dog is paired with a dedicated volunteer handler who ensures safety, compassion, and comfort during every interaction. Together, these teams offer emotional support, friendly paws, and a warm presence that brightens every visit.
