UroLift® System: Minimally invasive treatment for enlarged prostate (BPH)

The UroLift® System is a minimally invasive treatment for men with an enlarged prostate, medically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It works by placing small permanent implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue away from the urethra (the tube that carries urine), so urine can flow more freely again.  

Good candidates for UroLift

You might be a good candidate for UroLift if you:

• Are experiencing frequent urination, weak urine flow, or trouble starting/stopping urination
• Have tried medications for prostate relief and are looking for a simpler, less invasive option
• Want to preserve sexual and urinary function, since UroLift is shown to have fewer side effects than more invasive surgery

What to expect with the UroLift procedure and recovery

The UroLift treatment is typically done as an outpatient procedure, often with local anesthesia. A urologist uses a small device inserted through the urethra to place the implants. The whole process usually takes under an hour, and many patients go home the same day, often without needing a catheter.  

After the procedure, you might have mild discomfort, such as blood in urine or a burning feeling, lasting a few days or weeks. Most men return to normal activity within days.
