Reid Health GEMS: Going the Extra Mile
Many patients, families, and community members express deep gratitude when a caregiver’s support or kindness goes beyond expectations. Our GEMs (Going the Extra Mile) program allows those touched by Reid team members to say “thank you” through nominations.
These stories become more than recognition, they represent the heart of what we stand for: compassionate care, meaningful connection, and staff who serve with excellence.
Each month, a GEM is selected and celebrated in a ceremony that also honors long-service employees (five years or more). This recognition uplifts both clinical and non-clinical staff who embody our mission in everyday actions.
If you’ve experienced kindness or exceptional care from a Reid Health staff member or volunteer, share your story and let us honor them.
How GEMs are selected
- Eligibility: Patients, family members, visitors, and Reid team members can nominate clinical and non-clinical staff.
- How to nominate: Complete the quick form at the bottom of this page specifying the person, location, and a description of how they excelled in caring for you.
- Selection and celebration: A selection committee reviews nominations and selects a GEM each month. Awardees are honored publicly, and their story is shared within the organization and with their peers.

Why GEMs matter
GEMs are more than an awards program, they’re a way to reinforce a culture of appreciation, empathy, and care. By spotlighting those who go above and beyond, we inspire all staff to serve with compassion and purpose. It strengthens morale, deepens connections, and reminds us every meaningful act matters.
