Understanding sleep disorders

Sleep is essential for your body and mind to recover and stay healthy. When sleep problems become frequent or severe, they might signal a sleep disorder.

At Reid Health Sleep Center, our specialists diagnose and treat a range of conditions that interfere with quality rest, helping you regain balance, focus, and energy for your daily life.

Types of sleep disorders we treat

In addition to common conditions like sleep apnea and insomnia, our team provides expert care for many common and complex sleep conditions, including:

  • Circadian rhythm disorders: When your body’s internal clock is out of sync with your daily schedule, which can happen from shift work, jet lag, or inconsistent sleep times.
  • Narcolepsy: A condition that causes overwhelming daytime tiredness or sudden “sleep attacks,” even after getting enough rest.
  • Parasomnias: Unusual behaviors during sleep, such as talking, walking, or acting out dreams.
  • Restless legs syndrome (RLS): A strong urge to move your legs when resting, often caused by uncomfortable sensations that make it hard to fall asleep

Diagnosis and evaluation

Getting to the root of your sleep problems starts with understanding what’s happening while you rest. Our team uses advanced testing and years of experience to find answers and create a plan that fits your needs.

Your evaluation might begin with a conversation about your sleep habits, medical history, and symptoms such as snoring, tiredness, or trouble staying asleep. From there, your provider could recommend a sleep study, either in our comfortable sleep lab or at home, to monitor your breathing, heart rate, and movements while you sleep.
