Cancer Support Group

Find strength through connection with Reid Health. The Cancer Support Group offers a welcoming space for patients, survivors, and caregivers to share experiences, find encouragement, and build community during and after cancer treatment.

Cancer Support Group

Support, encouragement, and connection through every stage of the cancer journey.

A cancer diagnosis affects more than physical health. It can bring uncertainty, emotional stress, changes in daily life, and feelings of isolation. The Cancer Support Group at Reid Health offers a welcoming space where patients, survivors, caregivers, and loved ones can connect with others who understand the challenges of cancer treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

Led by Oncology Social Workers, this free support group offers encouragement, meaningful conversation, and emotional support for those navigating cancer care. Participants are invited to share experiences, build connections, and find hope alongside others facing similar journeys.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, receiving treatment, adjusting to life after cancer, or supporting someone you love, you are welcome here.

What participants can expect:

  • Supportive, compassionate conversations
  • Connection with others facing similar experiences
  • Guidance from Oncology Social Workers
  • Coping strategies, emotional wellness, and stress management support
  • Resources for treatment, survivorship, and caregiving
  • A safe, welcoming space to share, ask questions, or simply listen

How can a support group help

Support groups help ease some of the most common emotional challenges that can come with a cancer diagnosis, including:

  • Feelings of loneliness or isolation
  • A sense of loss of control
  • Emotional exhaustion or loss of hope

Connecting with others who share similar experiences can offer comfort, understanding, and renewed strength. You don’t have to face this journey alone.

Who is this group for?

The Cancer Support Group is open to anyone affected by cancer, including:

Patients

Whether newly diagnosed or currently in treatment, patients oftehn find assurance in connecting with others who understand their experience.

Survivors

Life after treatment can bring emotional and physical adjustments. Survivors are welcome to receive support and also offer encouragement and insight to others.

Caregivers and loved ones

Supporting someone with cancer can be both meaningful and challenging. This group provides a space to share experiences and connect with others in similar roles.

Those feeling emotionally well

Even when coping well, participants might benefit from practical guidance such as communication strategies, managing side effects, navigating work concerns, and accessing community resources.

Those with strong support systems

A strong home support system is valuable. This group offers additional connection with peers who understand the cancer journey firsthand and can provide a broader sense of community.

Whether you are newly diagnosed, in treatment, navigating survivorship, or supporting a loved one, you are welcome here.

Group topics might include:

  • Communication and coping skills
  • Managing pain and treatment side effects
  • Emotional support and shared encouragement
  • Access to community resources
  • Practical tools for everyday life during and after cancer treatment

While facilitated by Oncology Social Workers at Reid Health, this is not a therapy group. Instead, it is a supportive space centered on connection, shared experiences, and peer support from others who understand the cancer journey.
