The Reid Health Paramedic Program prepares experienced EMS professionals to take the next step in their careers through rigorous academics, hands-on training, and extensive clinical experiences that build the confidence, skill, and leadership needed to deliver advanced life-saving care.
Paramedic program accreditation information
The Reid Health EMS Training Institute Paramedic Program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
The Letter of Review recognizes that the program has demonstrated sufficient compliance with accreditation standards and allows graduates to be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic credentialing examination.
The Letter of Review isn’t a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
Program details
Total course hours = 1,168, with more than half of the program's hours spent in the field.
- Classroom instruction hours = 548
- Clinical hours for field experience = 620
After finishing our program and getting your paramedic license, Ivy Tech Richmond will award you 48 credits toward the completion of an Associate of Applied Sciences in Paramedic Science degree.
Students are encouraged to pursue the AAS degree, but it isn’t required to complete the paramedic program.

Program eligibility
- Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be currently certified as an Indiana EMT or A-EMT
- Must be currently certified as an American Heart Association BLS Provider
- Anatomy & Physiology is required.
Anatomy & Physiology Options
- Option 1: Completion of APHY 101 & 102 (Anatomy & Physiology I & II), or equivalent, before the program’s start date (PREFERRED)
- Option 2: Completion of HLHS 102 (Essential Anatomy & Physiology) before the program’s start date
- Option 3: Completion of APHY 101 before the program’s start date and completion of APHY 102 concurrently with the paramedic program’s first term
- Option 4: Completion of HLHS 102 concurrently with the paramedic program’s first term
Ivy Tech's first 8-week session in fall 2026 begins Aug. 24 and ends Oct. 18. Please contact us with questions regarding Anatomy or Physiology requirements.
Program cost: investing in your future
Total cost = $8,000
Tuition and fees include:
- Textbooks and educational materials
- Drug screening and background check
- TB testing
- Branded uniforms and outerwear
- Online coursework access
- Testing software
- Clinical tracking software
Payment schedule
- $500 deposit due upon your acceptance into the program
- The remaining balance is divided into three installments of $2,500, with one installment due at the start of each term.

EMS Training Institute
Program overview: Education designed around real-world emergency care
Our program combines classroom learning with extensive clinical and field experiences to prepare students for success as advanced EMS providers.
- Total program hours: 1,168 hours

- Student-to-instructor ratio for skill labs and simulations: About 4 to 1
- Location: Ivy Tech Community College – Richmond campus
- Schedule: 3:30–9:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays
More than half of the program's hours are spent in clinical and field settings, allowing students to build confidence and apply their skills alongside experienced healthcare professionals and EMS providers.
