Mako Robotic-arm System

Find out how Reid Health’s Mako Robotic-Arm System delivers unmatched precision in joint replacement, offering personalized care and quicker recovery.

Mako Robotic-arm system for advanced joint replacements

Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery offers patients across East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio an advanced alternative to traditional joint replacements. Suitable for patients with arthritis and joints impacted by sports and overuse injuries, Mako has transformed the way joint replacement procedures are performed.

What is the Mako Robotic-Arm System?

The Mako Robotic-Arm System combines 3D computer imaging with robotic arms and specially designed tools that allow surgeons to perform highly precise total knee, partial knee, and total hip replacements without damaging healthy bones and ligaments nearby.

Before your procedure, your surgeon takes a CT scan of your joint, which the system uses to create a 3D model. Your surgeon uses the model to create a personalized pre-operative plan based on your unique anatomy.

During the procedure, your surgeon uses the model to accurately guide the robotic arm’s movements and place your new joint. In control of the arms during the entire procedure, your surgeon replaces the joint using the system’s specially designed tools. The system also provides real-time feedback to help ensure the new joint’s optimal placement, range of motion, and natural alignment.

Benefits of Mako Robotic-Arm surgery

Compared with conventional joint replacement procedures, Mako gives surgeons more flexibility and allows them to place your new joint more precisely. By creating a personalized surgical plan, surgeons are also able to give you a more natural-feeling joint.

Robotic-assisted procedures, such as those performed with the Mako system, can decrease postsurgical pain and discomfort and lead to faster recoveries.
