TrueBeam™ advanced radiation therapy

At Reid Health, we use advanced technology to treat cancer with care and precision. TrueBeam is a modern radiation therapy system that helps target cancer while protecting healthy tissue.

TrueBeam allows our care teams to create treatment plans based on each patient’s needs. This helps deliver effective care with a focus on safety and comfort.

What is TrueBeam technology?

TrueBeam is a type of radiation therapy used to treat cancer. It was developed by Varian Medical Systems and is used at cancer centers across the country.

The system sends high-energy radiation beams to cancer cells. These beams are shaped and guided to match the exact size and location of the tumor. This helps limit radiation to nearby healthy areas.

How does TrueBeam support cancer care?

How Does TrueBeam Support Cancer Care?

TrueBeam helps doctors treat cancer more accurately and safely. It is designed to:

  • Target tumors with high precision
  • Protect nearby healthy tissue
  • Adjust for movement, such as breathing
  • Allow for shorter treatment times in many cases

This technology helps your care team deliver the right dose of radiation to the right place.

How does TrueBeam work?

TrueBeam uses several tools that work together during treatment:

  • Delivers radiation from many angles: The system moves around the patient to send radiation from different directions. This helps fully target the tumor.
  • Shapes the radiation beam: A device called a multileaf collimator shapes the radiation beam to fit the tumor. It uses many small parts that move during treatment to protect healthy tissue.
  • Uses real-time imaging: TrueBeam takes images right before and during treatment. This helps the care team see the tumor and make sure the radiation is delivered correctly.
  • Uses less imaging radiation: The built-in CT imaging uses less X-ray dose than older systems. This helps reduce extra radiation exposure.
  • Adjusts for breathing and movement: For tumors that move as you breathe, such as lung tumors, TrueBeam can adjust the radiation in real time to stay on target.

What Types of Radiation Therapy Use TrueBeam?

TrueBeam can deliver several advanced radiation treatments, including:

  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

  • Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

  • RapidArc® radiotherapy

This allows your care team to choose the best treatment for your type of cancer.

Who May Qualify for TrueBeam Treatment?

TrueBeam may be used to treat many types of cancer, including:

  • Breast cancer

  • Prostate cancer

  • Lung cancer

  • Head and neck cancers

  • Brain and spine tumors

Your care team will decide if TrueBeam is right for you. This decision is based on your diagnosis, treatment history, and overall health.
