How does TrueBeam work?

- Shapes the radiation beam: A device called a multileaf collimator shapes the radiation beam to fit the tumor. It uses many small parts that move during treatment to protect healthy tissue.
- Uses real-time imaging: TrueBeam takes images right before and during treatment. This helps the care team see the tumor and make sure the radiation is delivered correctly.
- Uses less imaging radiation: The built-in CT imaging uses less X-ray dose than older systems. This helps reduce extra radiation exposure.
- Adjusts for breathing and movement: For tumors that move as you breathe, such as lung tumors, TrueBeam can adjust the radiation in real time to stay on target.
