What exactly is the da Vinci Surgical System?

Despite its sci–fi name, the da Vinci system isn’t a solo robot performing surgery. Instead, it’s a highly advanced set of instruments — robotic arms, a tiny camera, and a surgeon’s console — that help your doctor see better and move more precisely during surgery. It’s a high-tech tool that extends what your surgeon can do, letting them make movements and see angles that aren’t possible with regular surgery or standard laparoscopic tools. 

Here’s how it works:

• Your surgeon operates from a console, gaining a magnified, three-dimensional view of the surgical area that provides exceptional clarity.
• From the console, the surgeon controls slim robotic arms equipped with miniature instruments.
• These tools copy the surgeon’s hand, wrist, and finger movements into tiny, precise motions inside your body, often with more steadiness and accuracy than a human hand can.
