Pediatric Hearing Care
Your child's ability to hear impacts how they interact with the world around them. Let the pediatric audiologists at Reid Health help them hear more clearly.
Helping children hear clearly
At the Pediatric Hearing Center at Reid Health, we understand just how important your child’s hearing is to their development and well-being. That’s why we provide expert care, leading-edge technology, and tailored solutions to meet each of our young patients’ unique needs — from infancy to young adulthood.
Whether it’s a routine screening or fitting your child with hearing aids so they can hear your voice clearly for the first time, our pediatric audiologists and hearing experts are here to guide the families of East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio every step of the way.
Hearing screenings
Early detection is key to addressing your child’s potential hearing issues. At Reid Health, we perform hearing screenings for children of all ages, including newborns.
Testing and diagnosing hearing problems for kids
When your child can’t hear properly, it impacts how they communicate and interact with the world around them. If you have concerns about the child in your life’s ability to hear, our pediatric audiologists offer a range of diagnostic tests, including:
- Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR): Used for children who are too young for traditional hearing tests, ABR uses electrodes to measure how your child’s brain responds to sound.
- Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA): VRA helps us evaluate hearing in younger children (or those with developmental disorders) using visual cues.
- Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA): Our pediatric audiologists are trained in CPA, which is a fun and interactive way to test preschool-aged (2-5 years old) children’s hearing.
- Behavioral Threshold Testing: We check your child’s ability to hear by playing sounds over headphones and asking them to confirm when they’ve heard the frequency being played.
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE): We use a small probe with speakers and a microphone to check your child’s inner ear functionality.
- Tympanometry: This technique identifies issues with the middle ear by testing how effectively energy travels through your child’s ear.
- Speech Recognition Testing: We evaluate how well your child hears and recognizes speech at varying volumes using an age-appropriate list of words.
