Your Reid team will create a care plan tailored to your type and stage of cancer and help you understand your diagnosis and treatment options.
Cancer treatment options
The type of cancer treatment you receive depends on your cancer type, stage, and long-term goals for treatment. You can access a variety of treatments at Reid Cancer Center.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy involves medications that seek out and destroy cancer cells. It’s commonly used to treat many cancers, and the type you might need depends on your diagnosis and other factors. Plus, if you’re concerned about chemotherapy-related hair loss, we offer innovative cooling caps that lessen the levels of medication reaching your scalp to reduce this common but unpleasant side effect.
Hormone therapy
Hormone therapy helps oncologists treat breast, prostate, and other cancers sensitive to hormones. Hormone therapy medications and surgeries change how your body produces hormones and how hormones work to slow or stop cancer growth.
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapies use innovative methods to boost your immune system’s ability to fight cancer the same way it fights other illnesses. Cancer cells can hide from your immune system. Immunotherapy teaches your immune system to recognize, seek out, and kill cancer cells.
Infusion therapies
Infusion therapies are treatments delivered through a catheter, epidural, intramuscular injection, or needle. You can receive many chemotherapies and immunotherapies by infusion. Our comfortable infusion center was designed with you in mind, with blankets, snacks, and other amenities, so your experience is as pleasant as possible.
Radiation therapy
Radiation therapy at Reid Cancer Center gives oncologists the ability to aim high-energy radiation at cancer cells with precision. Our radiation oncologists offer advanced external and internal radiation treatments to treat cancer as effectively as possible. We also use imaging to deliver radiation accurately and innovative add-ons, such as SpaceOAR Hydrogel for men with prostate cancer, to protect healthy tissue from the effects of radiation therapy.
Surgery
Many forms of cancer, including breast, colon, and prostate cancers, benefit from surgery. When possible, our surgical specialists use minimally invasive techniques that require small incisions, resulting in faster healing and less pain than traditional open surgery.
Clinical trials at Reid Cancer Center
Researchers are continually looking for new cancer treatments. Thanks to Reid Cancer Center’s participation in national clinical trials, you have access to new, emerging treatments that might offer better outcomes than traditional therapies.
Additional services
Although our goal is to treat cancer as effectively as possible, we know the disease and its treatments can cause other health problems.
If you experience complications from cancer or side effects from therapy, our treatment teams can connect you with services, including:
- Wound Healing: Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause slow or nonhealing wounds. We offer hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, which exposes wounds to 100% oxygen, increasing oxygen in the blood and speeding healing.
- Lymphedema management: About 5% of people with breast cancer develop lymphedema within a year of being diagnosed. Lymphedema causes fluid buildup, often in the arms or legs. Our comprehensive lymphedema program helps you avoid this uncomfortable side effect.
