Why choose Reid Health?
General surgeons have knowledge and experience in many areas of medicine, giving them the unique ability to perform surgical procedures on nearly every area of your body.
At Reid Health, general surgeons collaborate with patients, their primary care providers and specialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other providers to help patients overcome their health concerns.
All our general surgeons are board-certified by the American College of Surgeons.
Surgical treatments for common and complex conditions
With access to leading-edge robotic technologies and in-depth knowledge of minimally invasive and traditional open surgeries, our general surgeons can deliver the care you need to get back to life.
Appendectomies
Appendicitis requires immediate treatment, and our general surgeons have the necessary skills to remove an inflamed or burst appendix accurately. Appendectomies are one of the most common procedures performed at Reid.
Breast surgery
If you receive a mammogram at the Breast Center and the results are abnormal, you might be referred to a general surgeon for further examination. All our general surgeons belong to The American Society of Breast Surgeons, giving you the confidence of knowing you’re in the right hands for your breast surgery and care.
Our surgeons perform breast biopsies as well as lumpectomies and mastectomies. They’ll work with you to determine the best procedure for your needs based on your diagnosis and whether you plan to have breast reconstruction.
Colectomy
Our general surgeons are skilled in performing colectomies to address various conditions affecting the colon, allowing for effective treatment in a safe environment. This procedure can be vital for treating cancer and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, helping to improve your overall health and quality of life.
Colonoscopies
Reid’s general surgeons are as dedicated to preventing cancer as they are to treating it. All colonoscopies at Reid are performed by gastroenterology experts or general surgeons, and we encourage everyone at average risk to begin these vital screenings at age 45 — even sooner if you have a family history or other risk factors for the disease.
Cyst removal
We provide expert care in the removal of cysts, providing minimal discomfort and a swift return to your everyday activities. Our surgeons use advanced techniques to achieve optimal results, prioritizing your health and aesthetic concerns.
Excision of skin lesions
Our general surgeons specialize in the excision of skin lesions, ensuring precise removal and the best cosmetic outcomes for patients. Each procedure is tailored to you, providing you with a personalized approach that minimizes scarring and promotes healing.
Gallbladder removal
Gallbladder removal can bring relief if you’re experiencing painful gallstones and gallstone attacks. Using minimally invasive, laparoscopic approaches whenever possible, our general surgeons can help you manage these painful conditions.
Gastrointestinal surgery
These procedures treat conditions affecting the stomach, colon, rectum, small intestine, and gallbladder.
Hernia repair
Our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to repair many common types of hernias, including inguinal, incisional, hiatal, and ventral hernias.
Surgical oncology procedures
General surgeons at Reid perform many surgeries to diagnose and treat cancer. In addition to their skill in breast surgeries, they offer procedures to treat colorectal, skin, and many other cancers, using advanced technology, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, whenever possible.
Our general surgeons also perform port removal and placement when those procedures are involved in a patient’s cancer care plan.
Trauma and emergency surgeries
Our general surgeons are on the clock 24/7 to offer emergency and surgical critical care for accidents and injuries, as well as respiratory or multi-organ failure, shock, sepsis, and serious conditions that arise during a scheduled surgery.
Second opinions available
If you feel you haven’t been given an accurate diagnosis or want to know about alternative treatments, consider getting a second opinion from a Reid surgeon. Doing so can give you more assurance about receiving surgery, and you might find a more compassionate, attentive surgeon.

Reid Health Perioperative Care: Comprehensive support
Perioperative care is essential to helping your surgery be as successful as possible. If you are referred to the Reid Health Perioperative Care before surgery, you and our providers will review your current health to determine if a chronic condition or physical limitation could affect the results of your procedure. They’ll work with you in the weeks and days leading up to your operation to address those conditions, as well as prepare you for the steps you’ll need to take after your surgery to recover.
At Reid, no one goes through surgery alone. We’re with you at every step.
