Offering outpatient treatment for behavioral health

If you’re experiencing persistent sadness, anxiety, or other mental health symptoms, don’t be tempted to ignore what you’re feeling. Getting the behavioral health care you need might be easier than you think.

At Reid Health, we offer outpatient treatment for a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. You can find outpatient therapy services conveniently located across our communities.

Patients who received inpatient mental health treatment can transition to outpatient treatment for follow-up care. Through our outpatient mental health services, our team of providers can also diagnose and treat conditions in patients who don’t require hospitalization.

We offer outpatient behavioral health care to children and adults, with care for children ages 6 to 18 available at our Connersville location. Adults can receive outpatient treatment at any of our locations.

During outpatient treatment, you might benefit from multiple treatment options, including medications to treat your condition, behavioral therapy sessions, and ongoing counseling as an individual or in a group setting. Your provider can help you determine the specific treatment or combination of treatments that will best meet your needs.

Don’t let fear or embarrassment keep you from getting the care you need. We’re here to provide the outpatient treatment that will help you manage a mental health issue, right here close to home.

Inpatient mental health treatment

Our behavioral health teams can treat many mental health conditions on an outpatient basis, but some people with serious mental health needs can benefit from inpatient care.

Inpatient treatment allows our providers to monitor people having a behavioral health crisis or while they detox from substance use. We can also care for people with severe depression having suicidal thoughts and those with other immediate concerns.

Once stabilized, people in inpatient treatment transition to outpatient care.

Conditions we treat

There are more than 200 mental health conditions, many of which benefit from outpatient treatment. At Reid Health, our team of behavioral health specialists offers outpatient treatment for a range of conditions, including:

Understanding the different types of outpatient treatment

Outpatient treatment for mental health conditions isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your primary care provider or a behavioral health specialist can help you determine the treatment options that will work best for your specific needs.

Depending on your condition and the severity of your symptoms, your provider might recommend several types of mental health outpatient treatment, including:

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

If you’re experiencing mental health symptoms that are bothersome but not severe enough to require hospitalization, an IOP might be a good option. This type of outpatient treatment offers multiple sessions of therapy or counseling each week, which might include individual or group therapy sessions.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

This level of care is a midway point between inpatient treatment and an intensive outpatient program. In a PHP, you’ll participate in at least 20 hours of therapy each week and receive other services, such as medication management. Although this type of program doesn’t include 24-hour care, it’s more intensive than other outpatient treatment.

Ongoing outpatient treatment

You’ll have regular visits with a mental health provider located at one of our behavioral health clinics. Many people who have a mental health condition receive ongoing care from a psychiatrist, a mental health counselor, or a licensed clinical social worker.

You might receive ongoing outpatient treatment immediately after diagnosis, or you might transition to this type of care after receiving inpatient care or participating in an IOP or PHP.

Treating the whole person, mind and body

You’re much more than your medical condition. When you receive outpatient treatment at Reid Health, our goal is to help you improve your overall physical and emotional well-being.

Our team of multidisciplinary providers includes psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, nurses, mental health counselors, and licensed clinical social workers. These providers can help connect you with educational resources and other support services, including help finding other medical providers or health screenings, financial assistance, and support groups.

They’ll also work with other medical providers you see, including your primary care provider, to offer you truly comprehensive care. Your mental health and your physical health are intimately connected — and we want you in your best overall health.
