Behavioral Health Treatment
People experiencing mental health issues deserve personalized care. At Reid Health, we offer that care through inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth behavioral health treatment.
A full spectrum of behavioral health treatments, close to home
Mental health conditions aren’t one-size-fits-all — and the care for them can’t be, either. If you’re experiencing symptoms affecting your mental health, you need personalized care to get the right diagnosis and treatment.
At Reid Health, we offer behavioral health services in multiple settings, designed to meet a variety of needs. Our mental health specialists offer a full spectrum of care for mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, substance use disorders, and many more.
We also collaborate with providers outside our behavioral health team. That might include partnering with your primary care provider or specialists to help you get the comprehensive care you need to feel your best.
Our approach to care
When you meet with a behavioral health specialist at Reid, our first step is to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and the severity of your condition. This information will guide your treatment plan, allowing us to recommend the level of mental health services you need.
Care for a mental health condition can include many different treatment options, such as individual, family, or group counseling sessions, cognitive behavioral therapy, medication management, and support groups. Specialized therapies including eye movement desensitization therapy (EMDR) might also be included.
There is no one best treatment option for mental health issues. Your care team will recommend a personalized treatment plan based on your diagnosis, health needs, and situation.
Over time, your treatment plan for a diagnosed mental health condition might include multiple levels of care, including inpatient and outpatient services. We also offer telehealth services to help you get the health treatment you need without having to travel outside your community.
Our behavioral health providers are committed to helping patients in East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio overcome mental health issues and feel stronger, mentally and physically. We’re here for you.
Inpatient treatment
Although many mental health conditions can be treated in an outpatient setting, some conditions require more intensive care, at least at first.
We have four inpatient treatment beds for adults experiencing conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, or personality disorders. We also provide care for people struggling with substance use, allowing them to safely detox while receiving treatment.
Our inpatient care teams include specialists from many areas and include psychiatrists, substance use counselors, and rehabilitation specialists.
Combining mental and physical health care
Being hospitalized for a physical illness can be stressful. We make our psychiatric services available to people who are receiving medical or surgical treatment for a variety of conditions.
We also offer personalized care for people with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dementia, delirium, alcohol withdrawal, or psychiatric disorders who are also being treated for other medical conditions.
Inpatient care for people with physical health needs might include:
- Psychiatric evaluation
- Medication management
- Substance use counseling
Our psychiatric team includes registered nurses, licensed clinical social workers, and substance use counselors. They’re available to help you or a loved one connect to community services once you’re discharged.
Outpatient treatment
Most people needing behavioral health services receive them through our outpatient treatment program. If you or a loved one were initially treated in our inpatient program, you might visit our outpatient clinics, but we also offer many services to people who never required hospitalization.
You can receive many services at our outpatient clinics, including:
- Education about your diagnosis
- Individual, group, or family therapy
- Medication management
- Psychiatric evaluations
Our outpatient providers also treat a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, anger issues, and many others.
Our Outpatient Behavioral Health - Connersville location also offers care for children ages 6 to 18.
TelePsychiatry
In many cases, people with mental health conditions need long-term, ongoing care to manage their condition.
We know long distances can keep you from getting the care you need. To help reduce the burden of traveling to appointments and follow-up visits, we offer telehealth access to behavioral health care.
Our TelePsychiatry services are available at Reid community physician practices. You visit the location most convenient for you and sit in a private room while you talk to a psychiatrist at our Richmond facility using high-definition video technology.
These telehealth services are part of our commitment to helping you or your loved one get the advanced care they need, close to home.
Diagnosing and treating mental health conditions
Our experienced behavioral health specialists offer a variety of services through our inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.
Each person receives a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, and our providers tailor treatments based on your needs.
- Psychiatric evaluations: A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive review of a person’s symptoms, medical history, family medical history, behaviors, and, in some cases, lab tests. The visit helps ensure providers have as much information as possible to diagnose and treat a condition.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): Helpful for many behavioral health concerns, CBT helps people recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns that might contribute to poor mental health.
- Other types of talk therapy: CBT is a form of talk therapy, sometimes called psychotherapy. All forms of talk therapy can help people with various conditions learn better ways to cope or manage their diagnosis. You can have talk therapy in one-on-one sessions or in family or group settings.
- Dorsal column stimulator evaluations: Dorsal column stimulator evaluations assess the effectiveness of this treatment for people with chronic pain.
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): This innovative treatment, available locally at Reid, is a type of psychotherapy that helps people overcome past traumas and upsetting experiences.
- Medication management: Your provider might recommend medications to treat your condition, either alone or along with other therapies. Our behavioral health teams choose the right medication and dosage for your needs, and they can work with people in special circumstances, such as pregnant women, to change medications as needed to reduce possible complications.
Destigmatizing mental health care
Mental health stigma is a very real thing. In the United States, we face pressure from ourselves, others, and even society to be mentally strong and never admit to having mental health issues.
The reality is more than 20% of adults in the United States have some type of mental health disorder. That number has been increasing in recent years.
If you’re experiencing sadness, anxiety, or other mental health symptoms, don’t let the fear of other people’s reactions keep you from getting the care you need. Becoming a mentally healthier version of yourself is more important than anyone’s reaction.
