Postsurgical support, a phone call away

Our after-hours postsurgical support line allows you to talk to a trusted provider about side effects, possible complications, and other concerns that could appear after surgery. The joint and spine navigators and medical professionals who answer calls can help you understand your symptoms and give you advice for treatments that can help.

The providers will also help you decide if you or a loved one needs to go to an emergency room, call 911, visit urgent care, or schedule a follow-up visit with your surgeon or another provider.

Our after-hours postsurgical support line is one of many services we offer to help ensure a positive experience. We know having surgery is a difficult decision and can be stressful. We want to help ease that stress with our specialized surgical programs.

When to call the support line

The complications you could experience after surgery depend on the procedure you have. In general, though, call our support line if you experience any of these symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Increased pain, swelling, or stiffness in your leg or around the joint
  • Increased pain, tenderness, or swelling around the wound
  • Foul-smelling drainage from the wound that appears thick, green, or yellow
  • Severe back pain after spine surgery
  • Slight warmth and reddening at the wound site
  • Skin that appears red or discolored
  • Swollen, firm, or thick veins

A blood clot that travels from your legs to your lungs requires emergency care. Call 911 or go to the ER if you develop these symptoms suddenly:

  • A cough that might or might not be bloody
  • Trouble breathing
  • Feeling faint
  • Chest pain
