Guiding you through surgery and recovery

Surgery can be physically and mentally stressful. As partners in your care, our joint navigators are here to help reduce that stress and help you recover quickly, so you have the best possible outcome from your procedure.

Your navigator serves as a single point of contact for you and your family. They’ll arrange your pre- and postsurgical care, saving you from having to call multiple people to arrange care or get the information you need. Your navigator also serves as a single point of contact for your care team and can communicate your needs to your surgeon and other providers.

Support as soon as you schedule surgery

You’ll meet your navigator as soon as you decide to proceed with surgery. Just like a helpful friend, your navigator will be there along the way to answer questions and connect you with services that help you prepare for surgery.

  • Care Companion: This digital resource provides education, exercises, and tips for surgery. You can ask questions and get answers from a trusted medical expert.
  • Joint and spine classes: These one-time classes, led by our joint and spine navigators, walk you through what to expect before, during, and after surgery, so you’re ready for what’s ahead. Call (833) 984-REID to learn more.
  • After-hours postsurgical support: Our joint navigators and other orthopedic experts are on-call 24 hours a day to answer questions or address problems or concerns that might occur as you recover. You can call (833) 984-REID any time of day or night

Benefits of having a joint navigator

Joint navigators specialize in orthopedic care, and they have expert knowledge of what patients like you need to have a positive surgical experience.

In addition to coordinating care and connecting you to support services, your navigator offers:

  • Education: Joint and spine navigators spend time educating you and your family about your procedure, what recovery can involve, and possible complications to be aware of.
  • Preparation: Navigators will review your surgeon’s presurgical instructions to make sure you understand when to stop eating and drinking, changes to medications, and other preparation steps you’ll need to take. They’ll also meet with you just before surgery to explain what you can expect.
  • Postsurgical support: Your navigator will help you arrange therapies and other services you might need as you recover from surgery. Before your procedure, they can also work with Reid Home Medical Equipment  to help you get equipment you could need during recovery.
