A comprehensive approach to treating hip and knee pain

You shouldn’t accept hip and knee pain as a part of your life, and the team at Reid Health Comprehensive Bone & Joint Center wants to help.

Beginning with a seamless scheduling process, you can access an appointment quickly, with no long wait times to delay relief from your pain.

Our orthopedic specialists use nonsurgical treatments for hip and knee pain as long as possible. However, when you need surgery, you have access to expert orthopedic surgeons who use robotic and minimally invasive procedures when appropriate. These advanced surgeries use small incisions, so you heal faster and with less pain than you might with traditional surgery.

Options to fit every need

Your Reid Health orthopedic team is committed to providing you with superior care, whether you need pain relief, therapy, or minimally invasive surgery. Learn more about our options.

Two locations:

Multidisciplinary nonsurgical care

Not all conditions that cause hip or knee pain require surgery. Our specialists start with conservative measures designed to address inflammation, muscle imbalances, improper form, and other factors that can contribute to pain.

Your orthopedic specialist could recommend any of the following:

Pain medications

You’ve likely tried many over-the-counter pain medications to treat your hip or knee pain. If they’re no longer effective, your orthopedic specialist can recommend stronger prescription medications.

We use narcotic pain relievers with extreme care, given the possibility of addiction. Our providers can recommend prescription anti-inflammatories and other alternatives. If you need stronger pain medication, you’ll work with our pain management team on a collaborative care plan that includes medications and lifestyle changes to address chronic pain.

Joint injections

Many medications can be injected directly into your hip or knee to address pain at the source. You can usually receive these injections during an office visit.

Your orthopedic specialist might recommend:

  • Corticosteroids: These medications fight pain and inflammation.
  • Hyaluronic acid: This is a lubricant that helps joints move more smoothly.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy addresses muscle imbalances and weaknesses that cause pain and helps you find ways to change your daily activities to reduce or avoid pain.

During your sessions, your therapist will teach you stretches and exercises that improve flexibility and balance and help you correct movements that might contribute to hip or knee pain. Your physical therapist can also help you learn how to use assistive devices, such as a walker, cane, or brace, to make moving easier.

Sports medicine

If your knee or hip injury occurred because of physical activity or sports, our sports medicine team will help you recover quickly and completely, so you can return to the activities you love.

Sports medicine providers treat sprains, strains, tendonitis, ACL and MCL injuries, and many other hip and knee problems. They focus on healing your injury and helping you find ways to improve your form to prevent it from happening again.

Mako robotic hip and knee replacements

When nonsurgical care no longer works, knee or hip replacement surgery might be the treatment you need. Our experienced orthopedic surgeons have extensive experience in total knee and hip replacements and partial knee replacements, having performed many of these surgeries on patients throughout our region.

During these advanced procedures, surgeons use 3D computer modeling and small, specially designed tools to operate with precision. The new joint, made of artificial materials, is designed based on your unique anatomy, ensuring it fits well and lasts a long time.

Joint replacement support

To help you prepare for joint replacement, you’ll attend an informative pre-surgery class where our joint navigators explain the process from start to finish. In addition, we offer group exercise and therapy sessions after your procedure so you and others who’ve had a joint replacement can support each other throughout recovery. We also send you daily newsletters about what to expect during recovery.
