At Reid Health, we’re here to answer those questions and many others. Our comprehensive prenatal education classes, offered at the Family Birthing Center, are taught by a team of childbirth educators and designed to prepare pregnant women, their partners, and other loved ones to welcome a new baby.
Our providers are here to help moms in East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio learn what to expect when they’re expecting because we know being prepared can help ease your mind.
Parenting and childbirth classes at Reid
Baby Care Basics
Baby Care Basics provides pregnant women and their loved ones with tips about caring for a newborn. This includes:
- What’s normal and what’s not for a newborn’s appearance and behavior
- The basics of diapering, bathing, and swaddling
- Safe sleep
- Car seat safety
- When to call your little one’s pediatrician
Childbirth Preparation
Childbirth Preparation is a traditional childbirth preparation class for moms-to-be and their coaches. During this class, you’ll learn about:
- The birth process
- Coping measures
- Relaxation and breathing techniques
- Medications used during labor
- The role of the coach during labor and delivery
CPR Anytime
CPR Anytime teaches parents the essential skill of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. We use a program developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association to educate parents and others about when and how to perform CPR, including the specifics of child and baby CPR.
Prenatal Breastfeeding
Prenatal Breastfeeding teaches expectant moms the basics of breastfeeding. Although it is a natural process, it’s not always an easy one. Through this class, you can learn about the challenges you might face and how to overcome them, with help from a lactation consultant and nurses.
Shared Beginnings
Welcoming a new baby to your family is a very personal experience, but it can also be a lonely one at times. We want you to know the Family Birthing Center team is here for you at every step of the process with our Shared Beginnings program.
Through Shared Beginnings, you can access the prenatal education classes outlined above and many other services, including:
- A private tour of the Family Birthing Center
- Lactation consultant services
- One-on-one outpatient breastfeeding visits
- Support groups that allow you to celebrate the joys and get help for the challenges of having a baby
Our goal is to share in your baby’s new beginning by making the process as easy and comfortable as possible for the expectant mom and family. Participating in the program is free to expectant families who plan to deliver at our Family Birthing Center.
