Caring for all aspects of women’s health

Reid Health provides a range of services and resources to support your overall well-being. We understand good health relates to your physical and emotional wellness.

Whether you're looking to eat healthier, lose weight, manage a chronic condition, or address a mental health concern, we're here to support your journey toward a healthier life.

Healthy Living

Wellness starts with healthy living. Making small, simple changes to your daily routine can give you an energy boost and help you feel like you have more control over your health. These changes might also help you prevent or manage a chronic condition.

Try these tips:

  • Eat a healthy diet: Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean sources of protein, and healthy fats, such as avocados and olive oil, can help protect against many health conditions. Need help with healthy eating? Reid offers medical nutrition therapy with nutritionists who can help you navigate the often- confusing world of nutrition advice and find a diet that works for you.
  • Exercise regularly: Try to fit in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, such as walking, every week. Reid Fitness can offer guidance and motivation to keep you moving, too. Our classes are designed to maximize your health and quality of life, whether you need help managing a chronic condition or just need some extra support in improving your physical fitness.
  • Manage your stress: Stress can contribute to heart problems, depression, eating disorders, and even substance misuse. If you’re struggling with stress or its effects on your mental well-being, our behavioral health specialists can help.
  • Quit smoking: Tobacco is known to cause lung cancer and 12 other types of the disease. It also affects your heart and dental health, your vision, and your hormones, making it harder to get pregnant and possibly causing early menopause. We know how hard it can be to quit smoking, but we’re here with the resources and support you need to get it done.
  • Sleep well: Aim for seven to nine hours a night. If you consistently struggle to get enough sleep, the providers at our accredited Sleep Center can determine the cause and offer personalized care for your sleep issue.

Women’s mental health and well-being

It’s difficult to live your best life if you feel depressed, anxious, or burned out. Women often experience mental health conditions at higher rates or in different ways than men, and these disorders affect about 20% of women.

We want all women to have good mental health. Our behavioral health specialists treat many conditions and design tailored treatment plans, whether you need talk therapy or medications.

We also specialize in postpartum mental health, with providers who have certificates in treating pregnant women and women who have just given birth. They have expertise in finding medications that are safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and they understand the biological factors that can affect your mental health during and after pregnancy.

Cancer screenings at Reid

Women’s wellness means identifying issues early when they’re easier to treat. We offer preventive screenings to help providers detect cancer before it significantly impacts your life. Your Reid OB/GYN can make sure you know which screenings you need.

Navigating menopause

Menopause affects all women who reach a certain age. Although some lucky women have few or no symptoms, others experience hot flashes, mood changes, difficulty sleeping, and brain fog as estrogen and progesterone levels drop and the reproductive years come to an end.

A Reid Health OB/GYN can help you before, during, and after menopause as you learn to manage all the changes this phase of life can bring.

Those changes can affect more than your mood and physical comfort. Estrogen and progesterone appear to protect women’s hearts and bones. So after menopause, your risks for heart attacks, strokes, and osteoporosis increase when your body stops producing these hormones. Your Reid Health OB/GYN can help you stay on top of heart screenings and bone density tests to identify concerns early.

Heart health for women

Heart disease affects women differently than it does men, and many don’t realize it’s the leading cause of death for women in the United States.

Protecting your heart begins with recognizing your risk. Several factors can increase your chances of developing heart disease, including high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, your family history, early menstruation, menopause before 40, and pregnancy-related conditions.

You should also know women often experience different heart disease symptoms than men, like dizziness, fatigue, indigestion, and nausea. During a heart attack, women might experience chest pain, but it could feel like a crushing sensation, pressure, or tightness, often during rest.

At the Reid Health Heart & Vascular Center, we offer a range of services to support your heart health journey, including screenings and leading-edge treatment to help you prevent, treat, and manage heart disease.
