Expert surgeries for common and complex gynecologic conditions
Women face unique health concerns that sometimes require complex solutions. We offer comprehensive gynecologic surgeries for many women's health needs.
Leading-edge da Vinci surgeries
Traditional open surgeries involve large incisions that allow a surgeon to see and access the inside of the body. da Vinci surgeries allow surgeons to operate through much smaller incisions, thanks to robotic arms and specially designed tools. This system also uses highly magnified images that give surgeons a better view of an area for greater accuracy.
Women who receive da Vinci surgery often have fewer side effects, less pain, smaller scars, and shorter recoveries than with traditional open surgery.
Types of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery offered at Reid
Reid surgeons use the da Vinci Surgical System to treat many gynecologic conditions, including endometriosis, gynecologic cancer, incontinence, ovarian cysts, and uterine fibroids. Our providers might be able to help you with one of the following procedures.
Endometriosis surgery
Endometriosis is a condition in which extra tissue grows outside the uterus. When other treatments to address endometriosis don’t relieve your symptoms, you might benefit from surgery. During endometriosis surgery, your surgeon removes patches of extra tissue. The surgeon might also cut nerves in the area to decrease pain.
Hysterectomy
A hysterectomy is a surgery to remove the uterus. Sometimes, the ovaries and fallopian tubes are also removed. Hysterectomies are used to treat certain gynecologic conditions when nonsurgical treatments don’t offer the relief you need.
Laparoscopy
These minimally invasive procedures involve a small instrument outfitted with a light and a camera called a laparoscope. Laparoscopic procedures can help treat endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
Laparotomy
Although not a minimally invasive procedure, laparotomy can also help women with endometriosis and severe ovarian cysts. The procedure involves making a large cut in the abdomen to access the surgical area. It is generally used only as a last resort.
Myomectomy
A myomectomy is a surgery to remove uterine fibroids, which are muscle-like tumors that can grow on uterine walls. They are very common and usually noncancerous. There are different types of myomectomy, some of which can be done with robotic or minimally invasive techniques. All allow you to find relief from severe uterine fibroid symptoms and still get pregnant, if that’s your goal..
Pelvic organ prolapse surgery
Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when one or more pelvic organs drop or push into or out of the vagina. It happens due to having weak muscles and tissues in the pelvic area. Minimally invasive procedures can support your pelvic organs or move them back into place using your own tissue or synthetic mesh.
