Heart Scans
Find heart disease in its earliest stages. For less than an hour of your time, you can protect yourself with an affordable heart scan.
Heart scans: A few minutes could save your life
Your heart is the hardest-working muscle in your body, and it deserves as much protection as possible. With a simple heart scan at our locations in Richmond and Connersville, you can find out if you have clogged or narrowed arteries and take steps to treat heart disease in its earliest stages.
What is a heart scan?
A heart scan, also known as a coronary calcium scan, is a painless imaging test that looks for calcium buildup in the lining of your arteries.
Your body needs calcium to perform important functions, including building bones, but calcium can be harmful when it forms in your heart's arteries. Over time, calcium deposits can narrow the coronary arteries, reducing blood flow to your heart and leading to problems, including coronary artery disease and heart attacks.
A heart scan can also show a hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), which can increase your risk for many heart and vascular diseases.
Heart scan results are known as calcium scores. The higher your score, the greater your risk of developing cardiovascular disease within the next decade.
- 0: A score of 0 means the test showed no calcium in your coronary arteries.
- 1–99: A score within this range means your 10-year risk for cardiovascular disease is within the borderline-risk zone.
- 100–299: A score within this range means your 10-year risk for cardiovascular disease is about 15%. At Reid, if your calcium score is above 100, you are referred to a cardiologist.
- 300+: A score over 300 means your 10-year risk for cardiovascular disease is more than 20%.

What to expect during a heart scan
Heart scans are quick and convenient, taking only about 15 minutes to complete. You’ll receive instructions from your provider ahead of time regarding any necessary preparations. After the scan, both you and your doctor will receive a copy of the report in one to two weeks. This allows you and your provider to review the results promptly and discuss any potential next steps for your heart health.
Reid offers heart scans at a reduced price, with convenient locations in Richmond and Connersville.
