Cardiac rehabilitation for stronger, healthier hearts
Our Pritikin cardiac rehab program is medically supervised and designed to improve cardiovascular health after a heart attack, heart surgery, or for chronic heart conditions. Through individualized exercise programs, nutrition guidance, and emotional support, you’ll learn how to reduce symptoms, prevent complications, and boost your physical and mental well-being.
How cardiac rehab works
At your first appointment, a cardiac rehab specialist will assess your health, explain the benefits of Pritikin CardioPulm Intensive Rehab, and develop a customized plan for your recovery. Your first rehab session typically begins within two days. Most participants complete 36 sessions over 12 weeks, with options for combined exercise and education sessions depending on your insurance and your rehab specialist’s recommendations.

Pulmonary rehabilitation to breathe easier
Similar to cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab is a medically supervised program. The goal is to help people with chronic lung conditions strengthen their lungs and improve their ability to breathe.
During pulmonary rehab, you learn breathing techniques that reduce shortness of breath and other symptoms. These breathing exercises are combined with lifestyle tips that help you understand your condition and its treatments, nutritional counseling, and mental health counseling to manage depression and other emotional side effects of lung disease.
How pulmonary rehab works
Pulmonary rehab is generally designed for your diagnosis and overall health. You might have exercise and breathing tests that give your rehab team more information about your lung health. Your team would use information from these tests to design a program specific to your needs.
Programs typically involve a few sessions per week spread out over several weeks or months. Your team might also teach you exercises to perform at home.
Who pulmonary rehab can help
A pulmonary rehabilitation program can help you manage many chronic lung conditions. You might benefit from pulmonary rehab if you experience shortness of breath while performing simple tasks or have been diagnosed with or recently had:
- Asthma
- Emphysema
- Chronic bronchitis
- Bronchiectasis
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Lung surgery
- Environmental or occupational lung disease
